The implementation of optical networks in data centers requires cutting edge technologies that concerns researchers in Datacom. Data center is a home of thousands of servers where applications run on a cluster containing hundreds to thousands of individual servers; i.e. this cluster of servers acts as the computing unit. This requires high connectivity and high bandwidth between those servers to meet the expected quality of service taking into consideration the cost, power consumption, and network complexity (cabling, topology, etc.). This arises the need of optical switching in data center. In general, there are several optical switching paradigms proposed. One of which is the optical burst switching paradigm which is a new paradigm that aims to combine the advantages of the optical circuit switching networks and the optical packet switching networks and avoid some of their disadvantages. Our research focuses in implementing optical burst switching in data centers; making the required modifications in the architecture in data center components, defining suitable algorithms for burst assembly and scheduling, and testing the performance of the proposed network.

We use OPNET Modeler in traffic generation, building the architecture, developing the control plane of the network and testing its performence
